The FAA has proposed levying a $1.5 million fine against Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA), now doing business as Independence Air, for flying several of its aircraft for months without performing required scheduled maintenance and inspections. The alleged incidents date back to between May and October last year, when, for example, ACA failed to conduct a C-check due on one of its Bombardier CRJ200s, then flew 445 more times without completing the inspection, ac-cording to the FAA. The agency said ACA flew another CRJ 134 times after neglecting to calibrate its air data computer as required. According to the FAA, the airline also operated several CRJs with expired ELT batteries on more than 7,400 flights and several others on more than 3,600 flights without carrying out needed inspections and tests on various systems and components.
