US Helicopter’s (USH) scheduled service between Manhattan’s Wall Street heliport and JFK Airport carried 335 passengers during its first week of operation. CEO Jerry Murphy told AIN that he was pleased with the level of publicity the service received and the smoothness of the operation. “It ran like a Swiss watch.”
American Airlines passengers can check their baggage and pass through security at the heliport and be delivered to the carrier’s Terminal 9. Until USH negotiates interline agreements with other airlines (the first expected within two months), passengers have to repeat the check-in performance at JFK. However, this hasn’t put people off. Murphy said that seven passengers flew in from Dubai with an overseas airline. “They cleared customs at 7:05 a.m., we booked them on the 7:35 a.m. service and they were in their Manhattan offices before 8 a.m.”
