Aireon Will Help Improve Tracking in Singapore FIR
ADS-B ATC surveillance will begin after the launch of Aireon’s new satellites.

Aireon and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) signed a memorandum last week to use space-based ADS-B technology to improve aircraft tracking in the Singapore flight information region (FIR). Some oceanic and remote portions of the Singapore FIR do not offer surveillance of any kind, necessitating increased separation between aircraft. The new memorandum lays the groundwork for collaboration that will begin soon to evaluate all of the requirements in the Singapore FIR, as well as to develop policies and procedures to implement the new services when Aireon’s network of new ADS-B-equipped satellites begins to enter earth orbit in 2017.
