Swedish Transport Agency OKs Saab Remote Tower at Ornskoldsvik Airport
Sensors are installed at Ornskoldsvik Airport but air traffic is remotely controlled from Sundsvall, Sweden.

Saab and Swedish air navigation service provider Luftfatsverket (LFV) received final operational approval from the Swedish Transport Agency for the first Saab remote tower. The system’s sensors are installed at Ornskoldsvik Airport but traffic is remotely controlled from Sundsvall, Sweden. This milestone indicates that all technologies and operational procedures meet key industry and regulatory criteria for providing ATC services, they said. In the middle of next year the FAA will begin testing Saab’s remote tower technologies at Leesburg (Va.) Executive Airport, which could pave the way for similar approval in the U.S.
