Charles Alcock is managing editor of the AIN Media Group, having rejoined the company in 2019. He has been an aviation journalist since 1986, and previously worked for AIN from 1990 to 2017, most recently as editor-in-chief. His main focus is on covering new aviation technology and business models, as well as international news.
Having been raised in the London area, Alcock studied at the University of Manchester in the UK and earned an honors degree in Politics and Modern History. He speaks English and French, and some German.

The international presence at the fourth edition of the biennial India Aviation show, which opens today in Hyderabad, has increased significantly in recent years, with 18 major global aerospace groups now exhibiting, including Airbus, Boeing, Gulfstream, Bombardier, Dassault, Embraer and Rolls-Royce. The more diverse exhibitor base for the show stems from a partnership between the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), which with India’s civil aviation ministry organizes the event, and Farnborough International Ltd (FIL), which runs the UK’s biennial Farnborough International Airshow.


“When we first established India Aviation, FIL was the company of choice to help us access the major players in the aviation world to attend the show,” said an FICCI spokesman. “Both the 2010 and 2012 events were met with an enthusiastic response with over 200 exhibitors and 25 participating aircraft at the last show. We know that the 2014 show will be just as successful.”


According to FIL commercial director Amanda Stainer, India Aviation is well positioned to help the aviation industry capitalize on significant market opportunity in India. “In the last decade the country has witnessed a rapid increase in air traffic with more aircraft operating in the country,” she said. “Furthermore, to support this growth, the Indian government is also investing substantially in airport infrastructure projects including new airports, and airport expansion and modernization projects.”


Meanwhile, it is now just four months until the 49th edition of the Farnborough International Airshow (July 14-20), which is expected to draw more than 1,500 exhibitors from 39 countries. FIL has launched a prize draw to give trade visitors purchasing passes before April 30 the chance to win a Breitling Chronospace watch. FIL also helps to organize the biennial Bahrain International Airshow.&nbsp;
