Singapore Airshow Gearing Up For Great 2014 Event
Jimmy Lau, managing director of Experia Events, hopes the next Singapore Airshow will be the best so far.

The Singapore Airshow is Asia’s largest aviation event and one of the three most important aerospace and defense exhibitions in the world. Held biennially, it is organized and managed by Experia Events. The 2014 event, to be held at the Changi Exhibition Centre February 11 to 16, will be the fourth since it started as Singapore Airshow in 2008, under the new organizers.

The show promises to be bigger than the one held in 2012 with more exhibitors from around the globe. Some 900 exhibiting companies from 50 countries were present in 2012, including 60 of the top 100 aviation companies and 22 national/group pavilions.

Over the four trade days, the show played host to nearly 45,000 attendees from 134 countries with over 30 percent from outside Singapore. There were 274 delegations from 70 countries, along with 20 airlines, airport operators and industry CEOs as well as heads of international regulatory bodies.

The show closed on a high note with a record value of deals and announcements worth U.S.$31 billion, a threefold increase over 2010.

One of the highlights of the 2014 Airshow will be a new feature: the Aviation Security Zone, which will explore the future of aviation security and present trailblazing technologies, systems, capabilities that will define airport and aviation security in the 21st century.

Exhibitors will get to showcase cutting-edge security innovation such as perimeter detection and surveillance technology, access control software, cargo screening and Bluetooth tracking technology.

The rapid expansion in air transport in the Asia Pacific brings considerable challenges to the areas of pilot, engineer and other training. Meeting this demand will enable airplane manufacturers and the commercial aviation industry to rely heavily on new digital technology.

Training programs will also need to focus on enabling airplane operators to take optimum advantage of the innovative features and latest generation of airplanes. In recognition of the fast growing aviation training market in the Asia Pacific, this dedicated zone will feature the latest advanced training programs and technologies to meet the manpower and training demand of the new generation of pilots and technicians.

High-level conferences such as the Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit and Asia Pacific Security Conference provide valuable opportunities for exchange of insights and discussion of key challenges facing the aviation industry worldwide.

As a testament to the airshow’s achievements, over 80 percent of exhibitors have already reaffirmed their commitment to take space in 2014. “We are appreciative of the strong support of all our exhibitors, who continue to find value in showcasing their innovations and technologies at Singapore airshow,” said Jimmy Lau, managing director of Experia Events.

The company hopes to continue to draw top exhibitors and high level delegations, not just from Asia Pacific but from around the world, and be the leading platform for companies to strike new deals and spearhead developments in their respective fields.

“The robust networking and business opportunities that Singapore airshow provides for the Asia Pacific region and beyond make it a critical part of the ecosystem of Singapore’s aviation and aerospace industry, contributing to the long-term sustainability of the industry and opening doors to key markets for local and global companies alike,” added Lau.
