Spirit AeroSystems said it expects its Wichita line employees to return to work next Monday to restart production following efforts to restore power and clean debris left by a tornado that tore through its 45-building campus last weekend. “We are committed to doing what we have to do to bring our factory up and running by Monday,” said Spirit AeroSystems president and CEO Jeff Turner. “Spirit has made good progress with our recovery plan this week. Now it’s time to bring our entire Wichita team safely back to work, with the flexibility and responsiveness to serve the needs of our customers.”

The company said it intends to work on “quickly ramping back up to full-rate production” once workers return on Monday. Spirit crews have worked around the clock since the tornado hit last Saturday night to assess damage, build and work recovery plans, clear debris and restore basic services to the site.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect or pretty,” said Turner. “It has to be safe and operational, and allow us to produce quality products on a regular drumbeat to meet our customer needs.”
