Avidyne expects to receive TSO certification for its new MLB100 ADS-B in datalink receiver early next year. The $2,495 MLB100 works on the 978UAT frequency and delivers ADS-B traffic and free Flight Information System-Broadcast (FIS-B) weather to compatible Avidyne displays. These include the IFD540 and IFD440 GPS navcoms and EX600, EX500 and EX5000 MFDs, although they require a field-loadable software upgrade to accept the MLB100 datastream. To meet the ADS-B out mandate, which takes effect after midnight on Dec. 31, 2019, Avidyne offers its AXP340 mode-S transponder, which must be coupled with an approved position source (such as the IFD540/440). The AXP340 is needed, as well, for full reception of traffic information via the MLB100.
