Lufthansa Technik is expanding its U.S. footprint, and while its BizJet International executive and VIP aircraft completions division in Tulsa, Okla., has opened a new maintenance and refurbishment hangar, the company also announced the opening of a new Original Equipment Innovation division in Montreal.
The new Tulsa hangar can house an aircraft up to a BBJ 737-800 in size and also has offices that allow customers to be in close proximity to their aircraft as they undergo modification.
“Building up capacities to service VIP and special-mission aircraft, especially for U.S. customers, is crucial,” said vice president of completions Brian Barber. “With the opening of a new hangar, we are able to service our customers with faster turn-times.”
Meanwhile, BizJet has opened the FBO, complete with a refurbished hangar, which it started in October 2003. This hangar can house up to seven Gulfstream-sized aircraft, said Lufthansa Technik.
BizJet has also gone through internal reorganization, with a new mobility department “to combine the resources of the new FBO and BizJet’s engine field service team, called BEST.”
In addition, Lufthansa Technik has opened a new facility in Montreal for two on-site support teams for in-flight entertainment systems, one focused on Bombardier activities and customer support for the Americas and the other for in-progress engineering projects. The company already plans to expand the new facility, which supports Bombardier programs such as aircraft that feature Lufthansa Technik’s nice HD cabin system (Learjet 70, 75 and 85, and the Challenger 350 and 605).
