Two Chicago-area business aviation airports recently began major construction projects that will limit their availability.
Chicago Executive Airport (PWK) began weekend closures of Runway 16/34 on September 5, the first of five such closures running from Friday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m. The closures, imposed to allow installation of an engineered material arresting system, will switch to nightly beginning the first weekend in October. The PWK Runway 16 ILS will be out of service until at least October 22, although an Rnav GPS Runway 16 procedure is available.
At nearby Chicago DuPage Airport (DPA), construction at the intersection of 10/28 and 2L/20R began September 2 and will run for approximately 28 days. The Rnav GPS Runway 2R procedure will allow the following operations: straight-in/circling Runway 2R, circling to Runway 20L and Runway 33 and circling to Runways 15 and 28. The Rnav GPS runway 20L approach is in service and available for nighttime operations.
