TAG Farnborough Airport awarded the TAG Flying Scholarship 2014 to 17-year-old James Peter Singh. The scholarship covers training towards a national private pilot license at Blackbushe Airport.
TAG’s scholarship is one of the tools that the company uses to inform local school and college students about aviation, as part of TAG’s Aviation to Education program. The flying experience provided in the scholarship is facilitated by TAG Farnborough Airport and the Air League Educational Trust.
“Community engagement is very important to us,” said TAG Farnborough Airport CEO Brandon O’Reilly. “We are keen to encourage local young people to become involved in the world of aviation and I’m pleased that we are able to support this scheme.”
Singh is a student of Farnborough Sixth Form College and entered the scholarship competition by completing an application process, aptitude testing and an interview. “Aviation is a passion of mine,” he said, “and I have enjoyed some flying since joining the Air Cadets. I would like to thank TAG Farnborough Airport for sponsoring this training program and offering me the opportunity to fulfill my ambition to become a pilot or aircraft engineer. I can’t wait to get in the air.”
TAG Farnborough Airport, the host of the Farnborough Airshow, is planning to build new crew and passenger lounges and a recreational area for flight crew after the show. A second customer entrance is also planned to speed access to the airport. Recent improvements include Wi-Fi access on the ramp area, and last year the airport received approval from the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency to receive animals on arriving flights as part of the Pet Travel Scheme.
