A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Connecticut-based Volo Aviation has been chosen to manage the FBO at Tampa Executive Airport (VDF) in Florida and brand it as the latest facility in the growing chain. Formerly Leading Edge Aviation Services, the FBO services at the location (Leading Edge still operates an aircraft dealership and maintenance shop at the site) were purchased by Skyport Holdings, an investment company affiliated with Volo. “We see a strong local demand for services in the Tampa area,” said Brian Ciambra, Skyport president and CEO and Volo senior vice president for FBO operations. “VDF was losing business to surrounding airports in the area because of its uncompetitive pricing. Volo Aviation will quickly introduce aggressive pricing schedules at Tampa Executive that we hope will serve to re-engage our tenant base and attract traffic and business back to the airport.”


The Ascent fuel-supplied FBO occupies more than 30 acres at VDF and offers a 40,000-sq-ft hangar to accommodate aircraft up to the size of a Global Express. The 10,000–sq-ft terminal provides a spacious lobby, 15-seat a/v-equipped conference room, onsite rental cars and office space for tenants.


Volo now operates six FBOs, among them another Florida location at Sebring Regional Airport, where it is also the lone provider on the field.

Skyport Holdings Purchased the FBO services operated by Leading Edge and selected Volo to run the facility.
