Global Aerospace is again teaming with Calspan to offer subsidized upset recovery training for its insurance clients. This time, the Calspan Advanced Maneuvering & Upset Recovery Training (AM-URT) courses are scheduled for the weeks of September 8 and 15 in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
The Calspan training program designed for Global Aerospace customers includes ground school and in-flight simulator training in a modified Learjet. The Learjet is outfitted to respond to input controls with the same motions as a large-cabin swept-wing business jet. Global Aerospace said the Calspan course provides its customers with “technically advanced upset training specifically designed for business jet pilots.”
According to the aviation insurer, loss of control in flight “is undeniably one of the leading causes of aircraft crashes and crash-related fatalities.” It also recognizes that business aircraft pilots have become increasingly dependent upon automated systems, “and many do not have the opportunity to regularly practice and develop their airmanship skills,” hence the reason it teamed with Calspan on the AM-URT course.
Calspan and Global Aerospace held their first training event in Mojave, Calif., in February. Pilots from six different flight departments took part in that two-day URT class.
