One of a number of maritime patrol aircraft being promoted at the Singapore Airshow is the Saab 340 MSA, which is undertaking a demonstration tour to several countries in Asia. As part of its mission suite the aircraft is fitted with Cobham Satcom’s Aviator 350 SwiftBroadband solution, which utilizes an HGA-7000 high-gain antenna. The lightweight system supports critical functions, such as communications between the aircraft and shore-based command post, and with other maritime enforcement assets. Aviator 350 also provides datalinks for the automatic (ship) identification system (Secure-AIS).
Cobham Satcom has also used the Singapore show to promote its new Aviator S series. This series of systems has been formulated to take into account specifications being drawn up by the air transport air-to-ground communications working group. The S series will carry a wide range of services that meet future requirements, such as voice-dialling, inflight calling and internet browsing.
Expansion for the company in Asia is being recognized by the creation of a regionals sales director. Based in Shanghai, Jianmin Cui has been appointed to the post.
