Rizwan Ramakdawala, senior aerospace engineer with the U.S. Defense Technology Security Administration (left), and Donald Beck, defense controls analyst with the State Department directorate of defense trade controls, participated in an export control and reform panel on Tuesday in the U.S. Pavilion. The panel discussed revised export controls for aircraft and gas-turbine engines that took effect in April. In response to a question, Ramakdawala said processing times by his agency, which provides licensing recommendations to the departments of State and Commerce, will be slowed by “sequestration” budget cuts to U.S. government agencies. “We are all going to be furloughed come July 8,” he said, referring to required temporary leave days. “There will be a 20 percent reduction in workforce within DTSA, within licensing, so you can definitely expect to see an increase in licensing times.”
