Details of the crash of a Dana Air Flight No. 0992 into a downtown apartment building in Lagos, Nigeria, this afternoon remain sketchy as of Sunday night. 

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority also identified the aircraft as a McDonnell Douglas MD-83, registered are 5N-RAM, and the time of the accident as 3:43 p.m. Dana Air’s website states that the mainstay of the fleet is the McDonnell Douglas MD-83, which seats as many as 163. Two Nigerian sources, This Day Live and AllAfrica, reported there were no survivors among the 153 on aboard and a number of casualties on the ground. Nigerian aviation minister Stella Odhah reported that the MD-83's crew had contacted the tower at Lagos when 11 nmi from the runway, but the aircraft disappeared from controllers' radar screens barely a minute later.

The Nigerian CAA also reported that the route of flight was from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (DNAA) in the Nigerian capital city of Abuja to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (DNMM) in Lagos.

The Dana Air accident came close on the heels of a Boeing 727 crash in Ghana on Saturday, reportedly claiming 10 lives so far. That flight originated from Lagos and was operated by Allied Air. It hit a bus when it crashed close to Accra's Kotoka International Airport.
