Fort Lauderdale Closes South Runway

Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) plans to close the current 5,200-foot south east-west runway (9R/27L) at 10 p.m. EDT on April 17, in preparation for construction of a new south runway. The south east-west runway primarily serves general and business aviation aircraft, which will use the north east-west runway (9L/27R) and crosswind runways (13/31) at FLL during construction.

The new south east-west runway will stretch 8,000 feet in length. The construction work is expected to keep 9R/27L closed until late 2014.
