Honeywell’s newly certified Ovation Select cabin management system (CMS) made its fully operational first flight on the company’s Falcon 900 on October 6, en route to the NBAA Convention in Las Vegas.

With its recent FAA approval, Ovation Select is now available to deliver what Honeywell describes as an optimal on-board experience, enabling passengers to stay connected, informed and productive through SwiftBroadband Internet connectivity, or through personal communication devices, such as the BlackBerry or iPad. The system also permits a customized passenger video greeting and safety presentation in multiple languages, including Chinese.

The 100-percent digital architecture and Ethernet backbone reduces installation time and facilitates the standard end-to-end, self-diagnostic and trouble-shooting capability, according to Honeywell.

The architecture is scalable from general aviation aircraft up to and including single- and twin-aisle airliner reconfigurations. Paul Lafata, cabin management systems business leader, said Brazilian OEM Embraer has selected it as standard equipment for its new Legacy 450 and 500. In addition, several outfitters have chosen the system for five Boeing Business Jets, as well as an executive Boeing 777 due for outfitting next year.

Lafata also pointed out that Hollywood studios “have expressed their satisfaction with our encryption and decryption requirements and our copyright content protection system has their approval.”
