The NTSB has launched a Go-Team to investigate the crash of a Bell 206 tour helicopter into the East River in New York City. It plunged into the river just south of the United Nations building at about 3:30 p.m. today with five people on board–reportedly four British tourists and the pilot.

According to press reports, three passengers and the pilot were rescued in the river after the crash. One suffered only minor injuries while the three others were hospitalized with more serious injuries. One passenger–believed to be a female–has been confirmed dead by police officials.

NTSB senior air safety investigator Ralph Hicks has been designated as the investigator-in-charge for the agency’s Go-Team. Meanwhile, NTSB member Mark Rosekind is accompanying the team to New York City and will serve as principal spokesman for the on-scene investigation.
