California-based Helicopter Technology Company (HTC, Booth No. 6802) is an FAA-certified Repair Station and maker of main-rotor and tail-rotor blades for MD500/600 helicopters. HTC has come to Heli-Expo 2012 with a new certification, ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100C.
βIt distinguishes us from everybody else out there,β said Gary Burdorf, vice-president of engineering and quality assurance for HTC. βIn order to do certain kinds of work it is becoming required to have this quality certification,β he explained. βWe have always had our FAA approval to produce these products, but to get the ISO certification we had to build another layer of quality management system on top of that.β
Burdorf said that HTC would like to expand and is considering designing the blades for a new machine. βWith the ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100C, we can now partner with a Boeing or Sikorsky,β he said.
For Heli-Expo, HTC's vice-president of operations, Jim Fackler, put together a Powerpoint presentation on the pitfalls and opportunities of installing the company's blades. HTC produced a manual that the attendees could take with them for future reference.
