Mike Wheeler, 58, an FAA principal operations inspector and Part 135 certification team leader at the Boston FSDO, died in a helicopter crash on May 26. In between FAA stints, he flew for Air Methods and became its chief pilot. Wheeler served as a U.S. Army aviator from 1970 to 1991, including a combat tour in Vietnam. He was conducting a CFI initial rotorcraft flight test when the accident occurred. The other pilot was injured.
