Calling 2009 a “rough year,” MD Helicopters CEO Lynn Tilton admitted during a press conference yesterday at Heli-Expo that the company had fallen down on customer support, left some vendors unpaid and sold about 40 helicopters rather than the 70 projected. On the positive side, Tilton said MD’s efforts to streamline operations, restructure management and in-source production (including plans to bring fuselage construction of the MD 902 back to the U.S. from Turkey, where it is manufactured by TAI) have positioned MD (Booth No. 3841) well for the future. “Let me clear the air,” Tilton said, “MD is not going into bankruptcy. MD is not going away.”
