Crane Aerospace & Electronics (Hall 5 Stand A24) has appointed Michael Romito to serve as aerospace group president. He runs its sites in Burbank, California; Elyria, Ohio; Lynwood, Washington; and Lyon, France.

Romito, who was formerly with Parker Hannifin, holds a degree in engineering management from the United States Air Force Academy and an MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles. Romito also has held executive positions at Digital Equipment Corp. and TRW.

Here at the show, Crane is providing demonstrations of its SmartStem wireless tire pressure monitor. The technology replaces existing tire inflation valve stems with a special wireless tire pressure sensor valve that communicates tire pressure, temperature and other information to the cockpit or to a handheld reader. Crane has introduced a new handheld reader for the system.

SmartStem technology flies aboard the Boeing 777 and is being developed as part of the brake control and monitoring system for the Boeing 787. The monitors are also certified on a variety of business jets, including the Cessna Citation X and Sovereign.
