Offshore oil transport specialist PHI has unveiled what it says is the first dedicated, 24-hour offshore emergency medical services helicopter.

The new air medical Sikorsky S-76 C++ is designed to serve the oil and gas industry and is equipped with cardiac monitors with 12-lead EKG capabilities, defibrillator with pacing capability, transport ventilators and IV pumps, as well as a dedicated LifePort Inc. (Booth No. 2540) medical interior with two-patient capacity and a trained medical crew. The crew is equipped to remain in constant communication with PHI’s communication centers, the offshore facility and the receiving hospital.

The cockpit has EGPWS, automatically deployed emergency locator and externally deployable life rafts. PHI claims the S-76, based at Houma, La., is the first helicopter and crew to be certified and equipped with night-vision goggles for use in the Gulf of Mexico.
