BBA Aviation named James Donlan as president and CEO for Dallas Airmotive and Terry Scott as president and CEO for International Turbine Service. Donlan joined Dallas Airmotive after a 22-year career with Honeywell and AlliedSignal, where he most recently was vice president of sales and support for business aviation for Honeywell’s commercial aerospace unit. Donlan replaced George Darby, who left the company. Scott was previously senior vice president of sales and marketing for Dallas Airmotive.
Steve Hill and Gil Key have taken on new leadership roles with Boeing Business Jets. Key moves from v-p of operation to v-p of sales, with responsibility for sales in the Americas, worldwide marketing and customer relations. He also coordinates the overall sales campaign with Executive Jet for the Boeing NetJets BBJ fractional-ownership program. Key replaces Lee Monson, who was named in June to succeed retiring BBJ president Borge Boeskov. Monson will work in a dual role with Boeskov until the latter’s retirement early next year. Hill, formerly v-p of special projects, takes over Key’s responsibilities in operations, which includes all technical, operational and fleet support for BBJs, and will manage the relationship with the completion centers that handle the outfitting of the BBJ.
David Shih was named v-p of manufacturing operations for Raytheon Aircraft. Shih, who joined the company from Raytheon Aircraft Integration Systems, is responsible for fabrication, manufacturing technology and production control.
Anaheim, Calif.-based L-3 Communications named Robert Huffman as president of its Interstate Electronics Corp. subsidiary. He replaces Richard Tierney, who is retiring. Huffman was IEC’s v-p of marketing.
Jerry Leath was named president and COO of Chesterfield, Mo.-based Thunder Aviation. He joins Thunder from Sabreliner Corp., where he was executive v-p and COO and president and CEO of its subsidiary, Midcoast Aviation. Also at Thunder Aviation, James Mead was named manager of FBO operations at the company’s Executive Air Terminal at Spirit of St. Louis Airport. Mead was general manager of Atlantic Aviation at Teterboro (N.J.) Airport.
Roy Pickens is the new COO at Bentonville, Ark.-based Ozark Aircraft Systems. He was responsible for all operations of Dassault Falcon Jet in Little Rock, Ark.
Steve Fushelberger joined United BizJet as vice president of marketing and communications. He formerly was the director of public relations, advertising and communications at Rolls-Royce.
Sabreliner Corp. named Iain Glendinning as senior v-p of operations and administration of the parent company and is responsible for all the Midcoast Aviation, Premier Turbines and Sabreliner operations. Glendinning joined Sabreliner in 1995 as v-p of marketing and business development and was promoted in 1999 to v-p of operations for the company’s Sabreliner and Premier Turbine businesses in Perryville, Neosho and St. Louis, Mo.; Independence, Kan.; and San Diego. Glendinning and Gary Driggers join John Tucker as vice chairmen. Kurt Sutterer was promoted to executive v-p of Midcoast and manages all aspects of the company and its four operations at St. Louis Downtown, Louis Lambert, Spirit of St. Louis and Little Rock National airports. Sutterer first joined Midcoast in 1982 as an A&P mechanic. He was named vice president and general manager of that operation in 1985.
Marge Becker was promoted to v-p and controller at Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Piedmont Hawthorne Aviation. Becker was corporate controller for the company.
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Banyan Air Service named Walter Rittenhouse as v-p of technical services. He joined the company from Corporate Wings/Flight Options of Cleveland, where he was v-p of maintenance service.
Sheryl Barden, daughter of company founder Jan Barden, joined New Orleans-based Aviation Personnel International as a vice president with responsibilities for business development and recruitment. Barden was the manager of business development for Potlatch Corp.
Michael Morgan joined Lincoln, Mass.-based Avidyne Corp. as v-p of advanced systems development, after a 20-year career with Honeywell, where he recently was the integrated flight-deck program director for the general aviation business in Olathe, Kan.
Washington-based Vance & Engles opened a Los Angeles office and appointed Ken Curry as v-p of West Coast operations. He was v-p and general manager of Petersen Aviation in Van Nuys, Calif.
Keith Phillips was named to the new position of v-p of sales and marketing at Garrett Aviation. He joined the company from Curtiss-Wright Flight Systems in Gastonia, N.C., where he was v-p of aftermarket services.
Salt Lake City-based Groen Brothers Aviation named Robin Wilson CFO, head of business development and member of the board of directors. He was a partner and board member of SH&E, international aviation consultants.
Dan Gallogly was named general aviation market manager for Air BP’s Great Lakes-Northeast region. Gallogly is responsible for managing and developing the aviation dealer, distributor and consumer aviation fuels activities. He was aviation sales and marketing manager at Purvis Brothers, an aviation fuel distributor.
TAG Aviation named David Huntzinger director of safety. He most recently was an industry consultant and previously v-p of safety for Boeing and America West.
Molly Delk-Wood was promoted to marketing manager at Salem, Ore.-based Valley Oil Co. She was sales manager for the business aviation division.
Stevens Aviation named Bob Reimer maintenance manager for Stevens’ Denver location.
St. Louis-based VisionAire named James Taylor and Glen Monigold to its board of directors.
Peggy Gilligan was named acting associate administrator for regulation and certification at the FAA. She replaced Tom McSweeny, who accepted a position with Boeing.
Sergio Aguirre joined the Securaplane Technologies sales team with responsibility for overseeing the company’s corporate aviation sales. He was Western regional sales manager for Airshow.
Michael Driller joined Avbase Aviation as general manager responsible for all flight operations, including charter scheduling, dispatch function and charter sales. He joined Avbase from Raytheon Travel Air, where he managed the charter services department.
Chesterfield, Mo.-based JetCorp named Nelson Clayton as director of maintenance. Clayton has been with JetCorp since 1990 and formerly served the company in general maintenance, modification and repair capacities.
Greenville, S.C.-based Stevens Aviation named Mike Greco as the new director of modifications at its Donaldson center. Greco was previously chief of maintenance for United Technologies.
Larry Christensen was named manager of the avionics and installation department of Vancouver, Canada-based Pacific Avionics & Instruments. He joined the company from AirBC.
Donna Sanford was named general aviation market manager of the Rocky Mountain region for Air BP, with responsibilities for managing and directing the aviation dealer, distributor and consumer aviation fuels activities. She was director of line operations for West Star Aviation in Grand Junction, Colo.
Brian Poole was named managing director of Eldec Electronics Ltd. of Daventry, England, a Crane Aerospace company. He was managing director of Arden Solutions, a consulting firm in England.
PrivatAir, formerly Flight Service Group, appointed Kieran Ihlefeld to manager of aircraft management client relations. He was an aircraft dealer sales representative for GE Capital in Danbury, Conn.
Gen. John Dailey, director of the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, was appointed to the board of directors of Smiths Aerospace. He will provide guidance for the aerospace division. He replaces Gen. Duane Wills, who recently retired from the board.
Bombardier Aerospace strengthened its business aircraft sales organization in North America with the appointment of Michael Kolman and Peter Vasconcelos as sales directors for the Eastern U.S. Kolman was named director of sales for the Learjet 31A, 45 and 60 and the Continental. Vasconcelos is director of sales for the Challenger 604 and Global Express.
Houston-based Sugar Land Jet Center, an FAA repair station, named Harry Driscoll director of new business development and Mike Woods v-p of maintenance services.
Tom Robinson joined Vancouver, British Columbia-based Penta Aviation Services as regional sales manager for California, Nevada and Oregon. He was chief of maintenance for Harrah’s Entertainment.
Mike McClain joined Pro Star Aviation as director of business development and will help expand the company’s corporate jet maintenance capabilities. He was previously v-p and general manager of West Star Aviation.
Dallas Airmotive has named David Campbell as its Rolls-Royce 250/P&WC PT6 regional engine manager. He is responsible for engine-services support to helicopter operators in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. Campbell worked in his family’s helicopter repair business and was a customer of Dallas Airmotive.
Robert Keltz was appointed regional sales executive for the Far East at Sikorsky. He joined the company from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, where he was deputy director for the past three years.
Atlantic Aviation named Dawn Logfren as charter sales representative for its Teterboro, N.J. flight services division. She was in the company’s operations department.
Awards and Honors
Joan Sullivan Garrett, president, CEO and founder of MedAire, was selected as Arizona’s Entrepreneur of the Year by the accounting firm Ernst & Young. The competition will continue on a national level through year-end.
AIN freelance photographer Jim Upton was presented with the Society of Flight Test Engineers Fellow Award at the organization’s international symposium in Seattle last month. A fellow is the highest grade achievable within the society. The award is presented to a member who has attained a position of notable distinction in the field of flight test. During his 35-year career at Lockheed, Upton worked in engineering flight test for 17 aircraft programs.
The FAA honored the Tulsa, Okla. Air Traffic Control Tower for surpassing four million error-free air-traffic-services operations. The tower crew, which includes 46 men and women, has performed mistake-free service for eight years.
GAMA president and CEO Ed Bolen was appointed to the Presidential Commission on the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry by President Bush. Bolen is one of six presidential appointments to the 12-member commission. Six people have also been appointed by Congress. The commission was established by Congress for the purpose of ensuring U.S. leadership in the aerospace in the 21st century. The committee is expected to conclude its work within a year.
Final Flights
George Skurla died last month at age 80. Skurla led a Grumman team through final assembly, test and pre-launch of the Apollo Eagle lunar module that landed on the moon with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin in 1969. Skurla began his career at Grumman as an apprentice engineer in 1944 and was named director of operations for the company at the NASA Kennedy Space Center in the late 1960s. He was president of Grumman Corp. in the mid-1980s and was board chairman and CEO of Grumman Aerospace Corp.
