Scott Kasprowicz (center), the AgustaWestland A109S Grand owner-pilot who broke the U.S. transcontinental record a week and a half ago, announced his next record attempt yesterday here at Heli-Expo–an around-the-world flight in his AgustaWestland helicopter, N1US.

The current record for the 19,865-nm world flight in a helicopter is 17 days, which Kasprowicz intends to shatter when he launches on the journey in mid-July. His planned eastbound route from New York La Guardia Airport (LGA) will take him to Newfoundland; Greenland; Scotland; Milan, Italy, the headquarters of AgustaWestland; Russia; across the Bering Sea into Alaska; western Canada; then into the U.S. for the leg back to New York. Kasprowicz said almost one third of the trip will be flown in Russia.

When HAI Convention News asked the Northern Virginia entrepreneur why he’s attempting to set record flights, he answered, “I love to fly–helicopters in particular.
