VIH Aviation Group was the launch customer for the Sikorsky S-92 in 2003, and yesterday at Heli-Expo the company agreed to buy another four to be operated by its Cougar Helicopters subsidiary, bringing Cougar’s S-92 fleet to 11. Cougar Helicopters is based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and will fly the S-92 in support of offshore oil and gas operations in the frequent icing conditions and over unforgiving waters near Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Rick Burt, VIH Aviation Group v-p of offshore oil and gas, praised their record of service with the S-92 and at Heli-Expo, “voted with my pen to continue that relationship with Sikorsky.” At the signing ceremony, senior management of VIH and Cougar, along with Stephen Estill, Sikorsky’s v-p and chief marketing officer, enjoyed a champagne toast as Estill handed a scale model of the S-92 to Rick Burt, quipping that the company now operates one of the largest S-92 fleets and must have run out of shelf space.
