Crane Aerospace & Electronics has new developments to demonstrate and display on Stand No. Q94, including the company’s SmartStem tire pressure indication system. The system provides fast and dependable wireless pressure measurements that reduce maintenance costs, improve safety and extend tire life.
The importance of such benefits became apparent to Cessna last year when it selected SmartStem for aftermarket installations on its Citation X and Citation Sovereign aircraft. The decision follows in the wake of the system’s use by Boeing, which has been incorporating the wireless technology on all new-build 777s since last May.
Crane is currently developing the system for the Boeing 787 and said it also plans to tailor it for the military market. The SmartStem senses and communicates tire pressure, temperature and other stored information to a control unit onboard the aircraft or a handheld reader.
Meanwhile, Crane is also displaying its lube and scavenge pump selected for the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine used on the Airbus A380. Avio, the Italian manufacturer partnered in the development of the Trent 900, selected Crane to design and develop one of the largest gas turbine lube and scavenge pumps on the market.
