Itzhak Nissan was named president and CEO of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI). He replaces Moshe Keret. Nissan joined IAI in 1978 as a systems engineer and later became general manager of the company’s MBT division.

Awards & Honors
Martha King, who co-founded King Schools with her husband, John, was honored with the Cliff Henderson Award for Achievement by the National Aeronautic Association. Martha is the only woman to hold every FAA class of pilot and instructor ratings.
John Holland, regional aviation director for Air Methods, received the Helicopter Association International’s pilot of the year award at last month’s Heli-Expo convention. During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Holland was instrumental in the evacuation of patients and staff from Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans and was responsible for setting up aircraft staging and managing helicopter traffic and helipad procedures.
FlightSafety International founder A.L. Ueltschi received the Orbis Lifetime Achievement Award last month. Ueltschi helped develop the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, a DC-10 converted into an ophthalmic surgical hospital. Orbis International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating avoidable blindness in poor countries.
Final Flights
Hal Spragins, III died on January 16 after a brief illness. Spragins was most recently employed by Pilatus Center South/Epps Aviation in Atlanta, Ga., and was involved in general aviation for many years. He was president of the Hangar One FBO chain and led Memphis Aero as a top FBO and Piper Cheyenne dealer. He later joined with Pat Epps to form Pilatus Center South. Spragins was a former member of NBAA’s board of directors.
James Gilbert, accomplished writer and photographer with Flying Magazine in the 1960s and later editor and publisher of his own vibrant magazine (Pilot) in his native England, died on February 14 after battling cancer.
