Belgian visualization specialist Barco has been chosen by Aero Vodochody to supply high-definition displays for its L-159 modification program. Aero is converting four
L-159A single-seat light combat/training aircraft into two-seat trainers for the Czech air force, following a June 26, 2006 contract. The first reworked aircraft–dubbed L-159T1–began flight tests on March 28 this year. Barco is supplying two of its 5- by 4-inch cockpit head-down displays for each of the four aircraft. In the L-159T1 application, one of the displays will be used as a HUD repeater that replicates on a screen what the front-seat pilot sees in the head-up display. The second Barco screen will repeat the primary flight display. A video crosslink provides system redundancy.
