CFM International is on track to offer major performance and emissions improvements to operators of the CFM56 following completion of an extensive flight test program of its Tech Insertion package. Based on developments from the Project Tech56 program, the upgrade will provide Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 operators with longer time on wing, 5 percent lower maintenance costs and up to 20 percent lower emissions of oxides of nitrogen.

The development engine is currently undergoing a 150-hour block test at Snecma’s Villaroche, Paris facility, with flight trials due later this year following certification in June. The upgrade package will be available on the CFM56-5B and -7B engines for service entry in late 2007.

To date, around 2,100 CFM56-5Bs have been delivered to 94 operators. In early February, Mexican start-up carrier Interjet chose the engine to power the 10 A320s for whichit has placed firm orders and the 10 more it has taken on option in a $120 million dea
