Sasemar, the Spanish Marine Safety Agency, is the fifth government customer to order AgustaWestland’s AW139 medium-twin helicopter in search-and-rescue (SAR) configuration, like the one shown here. Sasemar has contracted for three, following previous orders by the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Ireland and most recently Estonia. The Spanish AW139s will also be used for water pollution detection missions and will be equipped with rescue hoists, forward looking infrared (FLIR), search/weather radar, flotation gear and four-axis autopilots with SAR modes. Customers worldwide have ordered almost 150 AW139s for roles ranging from SAR, law enforcement, medevac and offshore transport to corporate and  VIP travel.
