Rockwell Collins has announced its new Tailwind 300 satellite-direct television system, which it promotes as “ideal for the super-midsize and larger aircraft.” The system is listed at $200,000 for the hardware, uninstalled.
As with other Tailwind products, DirecTV is the satellite entertainment service provider. Unlike the Tailwind 500 and Tailwind 550, the 300 model offers satellite-direct television only within the contiguous U.S.
Rockwell Collins provides a turnkey service for content acquisition and includes the first-year subscription to the DirecTV basic package free of charge. Rockwell Collins provides the same turnkey service for other DirecTV packages at a cost of $3,500 for each receiver/decoder unit.
Deliveries of the Tailwind 300 are expected to begin by the middle of next year.
