As part of its efforts to achieve type certification for its four-passenger Midnight eVTOL model, Archer Aviation is testing all aircraft systems. The company just released a video showing tests in which a battery pack was dropped from 50 feet in different states of charge to simulate extreme impact scenarios. The tests were conducted in a laboratory operated by the National Insitute for Aviation Research, as the company prepares to start for-credit testing with the FAA. In the video, Archer's battery lead Alex Clarabut explains the process being followed for the tests, and what happened after the batteries hit the ground.
