An upgrade to Jeppesen’s Mobile FliteDeck iPad app now allows route planning data to be seamlessly transferred between mobile devices and installed avionics. The new route planning solution synchronizes an iPad running Mobile FliteDeck with certified panel-mount avionics through the Aspen Avionics Connected Panel communication network. GPS-derived own-ship position data can also be transferred through the Aspen Avionics gateway to Mobile FliteDeck on an iPad to show positioning on Jeppesen airport diagrams and en route charts.
In just two and a half years, Apple has sold more than 100 million iPad tablet computers. Airline and business jet pilots were early adopters of iPad technology, which offers powerful electronic flight bag (EFB) applications that help with preflight preparation, inflight navigation and display of charts and flight manuals.

Jeppesen recently released Mobile FliteDeck version 2.0 for the iPad, including the recently introduced fourth-generation iPad and iPad mini. In addition, it rolled out flexible pricing options for four U.S.-based JeppView data subscriptions based on two or four device installs. A JeppView data subscription is necessary to use Mobile FliteDeck on the iPad.

Three popular Apple iPad applications were central to the first of several education sessions dedicated to the iPad-based electronic flight bag (EFB) at NBAA’12. Speakers featuring Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck, ForeFlight Mobile and WingX Pro 7 all had their time at the podium offering information on how the products can enhance flight safety and efficiency across the business aviation fleet.
Prices for digital JeppView subscriptions have dropped, under a new program Jeppesen is offering where buyers can opt for two to four installs of the data. Previously JeppView came with four installations or product keys. The new system will save owners and operators about 35 percent when choosing just two installs versus four, according to Jeppesen. The new JeppView pricing structure will be available when Jeppesen releases version 2.0 of its Mobile FliteDeck application, expected at the end of this month.

Flight planning provider Jeppesen has handed out its “ground handler of the year” awards. Selected by the Boeing subsidiary’s trip planners, based on criteria including response time, problem-solving ability, facility quality, safety and customer service, the top locations in five regions were honored. For the region of Africa, the Middle East and India, Jet Aviation’s location at Dubai International Airport was selected. The location features an 11,300-sq-ft two-story FBO building along with more than 45,000 sq ft of hangar space.
