Hilton Software’s WingX Pro7 iPad app can now share flight plans between devices without an Internet connection. The FlightShare function allows any device running WingX Pro7 to send a flight plan and other information to another device on the same network, but now the sharing can be done via portable ADS-B receivers and AHRS devices. WingX Pro7 is now compatible with the iLevil ADS-B receiver/AHRS device, the Zaon MX1090 ADS-B traffic receiver, Sagetech’s Clarity ADS-B receivers and AHRS devices and Skyguard’s TWX ADS-B receivers.
PilotWorkshop.com says its free training app is the number-one download for the iPad and iPhone under “pilot training.” The app features 20 free training videos and audios that include topics such as single-pilot IFR, ATC communications, aviation weather, emergencies and airmanship, all produced in 10 to 15-minute segments.
The sophistication of external iPad ADS-B receivers has taken a new leap with the release of Levil Technology’s iLevil SW. The device combines attitude information, Waas GPS, ADS-B in and the ability to display information from external systems, such as engine monitors, all in a package topped with a solar panel for inflight recharging.
The new iPad mini kneeboard from PilotMall features a hold-flat leg strap and smart cover that automatically wakes up the iPad when opened. The kneeboard’s cradle rotates 360 degrees for easy switching between portrait and landscape modes while allowing full access to all ports and switches. The case also doubles as a desk stand. A suction cup mount is an option and costs $9.99. The new kneeboard sells for $29.99.
Hilton Software has released Version 6.9 of the WingX Pro 7 iPad app. New features in the update include SmartTaxi, which highlights in red on the airport diagram the runway that a WingX user is on and nearby runways in yellow. SmartTaxi also displays runway identifiers and runway remaining in real time. The new search-and-rescue grids feature allows pilots to enter parameters for a search, and the app will generate and display a search pattern, or WingX can do this automatically for an optimal search pattern for a grid cell, according to Hilton Software.
As the migration of iPad tablet computers into cockpits has accelerated, operators have had to grapple with the logistics of deploying these devices. Companies such as Atlanta-based AirWatch have stepped in to help manage configuration, security and tracking for operators that have anywhere from a few to thousands of these mobile devices in employees’ hands. Jeppesen, which offers the Mobile FliteDeck Pro app for the iPad, has teamed with AirWatch to resell AirWatch’s services.
Flight-support provider Universal Weather & Aviation added two new ways for its subscribers to access its flight-planning products, the company announced yesterday at the NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Two new iPad applications offered by Pilatus through Apple’s iTunes store allow the user to create a personal PC-12 NG interior design and exterior paint scheme. The apps, one for the interior and one for the exterior, may be downloaded and installed on the iPad at no charge.
The interior design app lets the user to select from one of four BMW DesignWorks USA interior themes specifically designed for the North and South American markets. In addition, customers can make individual adjustments to wood, carpet, leather, plating and other interior materials.
An upgrade to Jeppesen’s Mobile FliteDeck iPad app now allows route planning data to be seamlessly transferred between mobile devices and installed avionics. The new route planning solution synchronizes an iPad running Mobile FliteDeck with certified panel-mount avionics through the Aspen Avionics Connected Panel communication network. GPS-derived own-ship position data can also be transferred through the Aspen Avionics gateway to Mobile FliteDeck on an iPad to show positioning on Jeppesen airport diagrams and en route charts.
Satcom Direct recently launched the FlightDeck 360 iPad app, which provides pilots access to airborne datalink communications and real-time flight data. A key benefit of FlightDeck 360 is that operators can use their satcom Internet connections to gain datalink functionality, without needing or having to install a flight management system.
