Ramco announced the launch of its cloud-based workspace solution yesterday at Heli-Expo ’13. Ramco Aviation on Cloud offers small and midsize operators the ability to replace their IT support infrastructure with the subscription-based program, which helps manage workorder and supply chain details, employee information and payroll data. “Helicopter companies and MROs addressing the heli-operator segment…constantly face operational hurdles,” said P.R. French electronics provider PGA Electronics has introduced Smart Touch Cabin, a wireless software application that allows passengers to control cabin functions from any point in the cabin using the iPad or iPhone.

The customized interface, according to the Montierchaume, France-based firm, allows control of virtually all aspects of the cabin, from lighting and entertainment to electric shades.

TrueNorth Avionics’ Stylus cord-and-reel handset is now “ready for purchase and immediate delivery,” with Peterborough, Canada-based Flying Colours as the first of the company’s partners to install the equipment.

A wireless variant is in the works and can be expected in the near future, added a spokeswoman.

TrueNorth, based in Ottawa, emphasizes the “high-definition face-to-face quality calls, a Corning Gorilla glass face and one-button interface. Stylus is enabled by the TrueNorth software-centric Symphonē OpenCabin package.

(Booth No. 706), is enticing NBAA’12 attendees to its exhibit by offering an iPad Mini giveaway if they’ll stay to hear about the company’s new communication platform, Bizjet Mobile. The product uses an existing onboard smartphone, iPad or Android device’s Bluetooth plus Iridium technology to send and receive emails and text messages worldwide.

Hilton Software (Booth No. 3064) has added key new features to its WingX Pro 7 iPad moving-map software, including integration with the X-Plane flight simulator and a terrain and obstacle ground proximity warning system (GPWS) that includes a terrain profile. The GPWS also provides a look-ahead function to warn pilots of impending impact with terrain or obstacles.

The app and the mobile service combine ATP’s single-source aircraft aviation document databases with the iPad’s portability. Using the HubConnect app and the HubConnect mobile service, subscribers have instant mobile access to ATP’s library of maintenance publications, regulatory documents and pilot operating handbooks.

The popular ForeFlight iPad moving-map application and X-Plane personal computer-based simulator now can be integrated to display X-Plane’s simulated aircraft position on the app’s moving map. This is a significant improvement that allows pilots to practice using the ForeFlight app while flying X-Plane, instead of trying to learn how to use the app in the air when they should be looking outside.
