Baldwin Aviation said on October 15 that the newest version of its proprietary Savvy software for developers of safety management systems (SMS) is now fully operational. Savvy second generation allows users to create more customized documentation than version one. Don Baldwin, president and CEO, said, “The changes…allowed us to expand what we can include, such as service issue tracking, and offer greater cloud integration for increased security, performance and scalability at no added cost to the client.”
Arinc Direct (Booth No. 2155) has released a new version of its iPad app, which has proved popular with flight departments worldwide. The latest version, 3.0, provides “a host of document-management functions that simplify flight-planning needs by putting important information at a pilot’s fingertips,” said the Annapolis, Md.-based company (which is in the process of being sold by The Carlyle Group to Rockwell Collins).
After 12 months of flight testing in 2010 and 2011 and a soft launch in 2012, Exec Jet Mobile’s BizjetMobile systems division has completed its first successful year of commercial operation on a range of corporate jets. Here at the NBAA show (Booth No. C11338), Exec Jet Mobile is displaying its full BizjetMobile product line. “There is finally an affordable wireless in-flight connectivity solution for private aircraft owners and operators,” said Exec Jet Mobile CEO Thomas Linn.
Jeppesen has released version 2.1 of its Mobile FliteDeck iPad app with several significant improvements, including display of own-ship position on geo-referenced approach charts. Jeppesen also revealed that it has begun development of FliteDeck Pro (for commercial operators) for a new platform, and it isn’t Android but Microsoft’s Windows 8/Surface tablet environment.
InTheAirNet announced that it received U.S. patent approval September 10 for a new in-flight entertainment (IFE) system for commercial and business aircraft. This is one of a recent series of InTheAirNet patent applications relating to airlines and private jets that the Irvine, Calif.-based electronics specialist believes will reduce both cost and weight for the end user and still provide full features, including the connectivity on which the current market is focused.

Elliott Aviation is pursuing STCs for Aircell’s new ATG 2000 broadband system in the Hawker 800/850/900, Phenom 300, King Air 350 and King Air B200/B200GT. It hopes to have the approval in hand by next year’s first quarter. The Aircell ATG 2000 is a cabin broadband wireless system aimed at midsize and light jets and turboprops. It allows passengers to connect to the Internet on their laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Jeppesen’s new version of its Mobile FliteDeck e-chart app for the iPad and iPad mini is now available at the Apple App Store, the company announced late last week. Mobile FliteDeck v2.1, which is compatible with both iOS 6 and the new iOS 7, further enhances pilot situational awareness and optimizes user interaction, Jeppesen said.
Landmark Aviation has launched an enhanced version of its mobile application. Connect 2 Landmark provides a convenient link to company news and the service provider’s customers can use it to find amenity descriptions, runway maps, directions, weather conditions and frequencies for all Landmark locations. While the previous version of the application allowed access to most of this information, in the new program customers can view MRO offerings, as well as browse the company’s current charter fleet and request charter quotes from their mobile devices.
Aircell will expand its Gogo Biz service to include voice capabilities beginning October 1. Gogo Biz was launched in 2009 as an Internet-only service in the business aviation market. Because Gogo Biz operates on Aircell’s air-to-ground technology, its voice calls are among the clearest in aviation, on par with mobile phone calls on the ground, the company claims.
