Bombardier Aerospace received a major boost for its sagging CRJ regional jet program on Thursday, when Delta Air Lines placed a firm order for 40 dual-class CRJ900s and reserved options on another 30.

The FAA has proposed a $400,000 civil penalty against Atlantic Southeast Airlines–now operating as Expressjet–for operating a Bombardier regional jet in revenue flight without a properly completed maintenance release. The agency says the airline conducted 49 trips between July 7 and July 15 without an authorized signature on either the maintenance release or the aircraft’s discrepancy log. Atlantic Southeast has 30 days from receipt of the FAA’s civil penalty letter to respond to the agency.

St. George, Utah-based SkyWest expects to ground 66 fifty-seat Bombardier CRJs and add 34 more dual-class Bombardier jets ranging in seating capacity from 65 to 76 seats under a memorandum of understanding signed with code-share partner Delta Air Lines, the world’s largest regional airline announced today.

A Houston-based pilot working for U.S. regional airline ExpressJet has filed a lawsuit against his company and its parent, Atlanta-based Atlantic Southeast Airlines, claiming retaliation against him for refusing to fly during severe weather conditions.

St. George, Utah-based SkyWest on May 11 named former CFO and executive vice president Brad Rich president of the company as part of a restructuring that saw vice president of finance and treasurer Michael Kraupp become chief financial officer. Long-time SkyWest chief executive Jerry Atkin remains chairman of the board and CEO.

St. George, Utah-based SkyWest placed a firm order with Bombardier last month for four CRJ700s. SkyWest plans to fly the airplanes under its Delta Connection code-share agreement in a 65-seat, dual-class configuration.

St. George, Utah-based SkyWest announced today that it has completed its acquisition of Houston-based ExpressJet Holdings. Under the terms of the $133 million transaction, ExpressJet Airlines becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlanta-based Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA), itself a unit of SkyWest.
