AgustaWestland is purchasing full ownership of the BA609 civil tiltrotor program from Bell Helicopter. AW’s new CEO, Bruno Spagnolini, and Bell CEO John Garrison announced the deal at the Paris Air Show on June 21. Under the proposed agreement, subject to regulatory approval, Bell will continue to provide engineering, program management services, and key component manufacture on the 609. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
AgustaWestland (Stand 7010) has sold a GrandNew light twin helicopter to Turkey’s Genel Havacilik. The aircraft will be used for VIP missions and is slated for delivery next month. The order marks the type’s entry into the Turkish market.
MBDA is stepping up efforts to consolidate Europe’s missile industry, on the back of last November’s Anglo-French Defence Declaration. This pact nominated the company–already a four-nation European industrial combine owned by BAE Systems (37.5 percent), EADS (37.5 percent) and Finmeccanica (25 percent)–as “a test case” for further integration, according to CEO Antoine Bouvier.

Former Alenia executive Carlo Logli (senior vice president of strategies and business development) replaced Alessandro Franzoni as CEO of Superjet International as part of a management shakeup that saw Franzoni move to Alenia Aermacchi to become its chief operating officer. ATR has chosen former company chief executive Filippo Bagnato to replace outgoing CEO Stephane Mayer, whose three-year mandate has expired in accordance with the Franco-Italian company’s statutes. Bagnato served as ATR’s CEO between 2004 and 2007. For the past three years he held the position of Finmeccanica’s executive vice president of technical, industrial and commercial development.

Pressure to reduce costs is the top priority facing aerospace executives, according to a new survey by global management consultancy Accenture. As a result, companies will be forced to increase the use of external engineering services over the next three years, it finds.
On Tuesday, AgustaWestland broke ground on a new Russian production plant at Tomilinom, near Moscow. The 120,000-sq-ft building will house another final assembly line for the AW139 medium twin helicopter that will be operated by HeliVert, a 50-50 joint venture between AgustaWestland and state-owned Russian Helicopters. The AW139 is currently manufactured in Italy, as well as in the U.S. at Agusta’s Philadelphia plant.
A spokesman for AgustaWestland (AW) told AIN that the company is still in the hunt for the U.S. VXX Presidential helicopter replacement program, commonly known as Marine One. Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, the chairman and CEO of AW parent company Finmeccanica, suggested that AW could partner with Boeing and L-3 for the contract.
