AirCell is introducing two new airborne telecommunications products, the AST 3500, which combines cellular technology with the Iridium satcom system, and the ST 3100, which relies exclusively on Iridium. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in November.
Icarus Instruments of Tokoma Park, Md., has introduced SatTalk II, a low-cost satcom system that uses the Iridium network of satellites to route calls around the globe. The $6,000 system consists of a Motorola Series 9505 portable telephone, aircraft-mounted docking station and external antenna. The satphone can be removed from its docking station and used on battery power on the ground away from the airplane.

Mercury Air Center dedicated a new hangar and tenant office on August 24 at its Hanscom Field FBO (BED) in Bedford, Mass. The 38,000-sq-ft facility, built adjacent to the existing Mercury terminal, includes a 30,000-sq-ft hangar bay that can accommodate GVs or Global Expresses. In addition to the bay, there are 8,000 sq ft of office and shop space available for tenants.

International Communications Group (ICG) has integrated its Iridium-based satcom systems with the Universal Avionics UniLink UL-70x communications management unit. Operators can use Iridium short-burst data or the standard dial-up data service to receive text and graphical weather anywhere in the world, along with text messaging, position reporting and Acars messaging.
