HighTech Finishing (Booth No. 1379) last year had its best 12 months since 2001. The Texas company, which supplies decorative plating for aircraft interior fittings, attributes this strong performance to demand for new aircraft as well as increased activity in refurbishment of older aircraft.

Embraer (Booth No. 1420) has sold another two super-midsize Legacy 600 business jets in the Middle East, bringing the fleet to seven in the region. The first has been purchased in Beirut, Lebanon, by Adnan Kassar. He is the chairman and CEO of Fransabank SAL and chairman of the General Union of Arab Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. Delivery is pegged for the third quarter.

Embraer believes that the new Lineage 1000 business jet may well find a significant market in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) sales region. For example, while the ultra-large category accounts for 2 percent of the world’s business jet deliveries, it represents 6 percent of the deliveries in the EMEA region.

Embraer is breaking into the business jet big league with the launch here at the EBACE show today of the new Lineage 1000 jet derived from its 190 regional airliner. The development of the $40.95 million large-cabin model was approved by the airframer’s board of directors last week on April 25 and the aircraft is expected to enter service during 2008.

The European Aviation Safety Agency has presented Embraer with a type certificate for its E-195 airliner, the largest airplane in its stable and the last member of the company’s flagship E-Jet family. The approval comes a little more than two weeks after Brazil’s new certification authority granted its approval and clears the way for deliveries to the 195’s first European operator, FlyBE.

Eaton (Hall 4 Stand F12) has been selected by Embraer to provide five packages for Embraer’s Phenom 100 very light jet. These include the hydraulic power generation package, design of the aircraft’s flap system and landing gear control hydraulic components. It will also supply miscellaneous cockpit controls including the throttle, landing gear and flap selectors.

Embraer last week formally responded to Turkey’s request for proposals for a new military trainer, offering its Super Tucano for a requirement expected to result in 36 firm orders and 19 options. The Brazilian jet has also been technically approved for Singapore’s trainer RFP with this bidding process due to be finalized by the end of July, ahead of the final commercial and financial proposals.

Thales is demonstrating its “world first” regional aircraft in-flight entertainment (IFE) system for the first time here at Farnborough International on the Embraer 190.

The Top Series i-4500 IFE installation is claimed to be unique in that the IFE server is located in the rear of the aircraft instead of under passenger seats, saving considerable space.

Taipei’s Mandarin Airlines is to lease three Embraer Model 190 and five Model 195 regional jets from GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS). The aircraft will be configured in 104- and 116-seat single-class layouts, respectively.

During an investor conference yesterday, Embraer senior v-p of executive jets Luis Carlos Affonso predicted that his company is positioned to benefit from the expected growth in the business aviation market. Last year 749 business jets were delivered, he said, and by 2015 that number is forecast to be 1,100, about one-quarter of which will be very light jets.
