Goodrich has been selected by ATA to provide landing gear maintenance services in support of the Indianapolis, Indiana-based airline’s operations, covering all scheduled repair and overhaul on McDonnell Douglas DC-10, and Boeing 757, 737 Classic and Next Generation 737 aircraft, a fleet totaling 29 aircraft.
Jakarta-based Lion Air is the previously unnamed customer for a listed order for 40 Boeing 737-900ER airliners–nominally valued at more than $3 billion–that bring the carrier’s combined orders for the model to 100. It was named here Monday. “The 737 is the right plane to support our growing route structure throughout Southeast Asia,” said a Lion Air spokesman. The airline’s initial order for 30 launched the program in July 2005.
Boeing has awarded Goodyear Tire & Rubber, the world’s largest supplier of aircraft tires, a six-year contract to provide Flight Leader and Flight Radial tires for 737NG aircraft. The “unique body cord shape” of the reduced-weight units is said to minimize stress on takeoff and landing. The tires will equip aircraft to be delivered to operators such as All Nippon, Continental, Ryanair and Southwest.

A surge in demand for landing gear overhaul has prompted Lufthansa Technik to form a division dedicated to the activity and consider adding shifts at its four facilities while launching a total landing gear support (TLS) program.

Cockpit voice recordings leaked late last month from the Embraer Legacy that collided with the Gol Airlines 737 over the Amazon last September indicate that the two business-jet pilots were very much aware of their position and altitude, despite earlier reports to the contrary. The transcript shows the Legacy crew correctly checked in at their assigned altitude of FL370, which was confirmed by ATC.

Boeing Business Jets yesterday announced seven new orders since January–for six BBJs and one executive/VIP version of the 787-9 Dreamliner–valued at $478 million at current list prices.
“We continue to see incredible demand,” said BBJ president Steven Hill, adding that Boeing is poised for another “phenomenal year.”
