Aviation Partners said 30 hr of initial flight testing of its winglets installed on a Hawker 800 (designated the 800SP) has verified a 7-percent reduction in cruise fuel consumption, netting an increase of 150 to 200 nm in range, “significant” improvement in takeoff second segment climb, better payload capability from hot-and-high airports and optimum cruise altitudes of about 2,000 ft higher.

The news that Pratt & Whitney had beaten Rolls-Royce and General Electric in the competition to power the new Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) was received in the company’s Connecticut headquarters with more than the usual celebration. It meant that Pratt & Whitney had secured a launch order for one of the most important engines it has ever developed.

Jormac Aerospace, a Yankee Pacific division, has developed an overhead bin/cabin liner for Boeing 727, 737 and 757 single-aisle aircraft as a solution to storage in the staff seating areas of executive versions of these aircraft. The bins are 28 percent larger than standard airliner bins and can accommodate wheel-first stowage of most carry-on bags.

An optional kit for BBJs that will provide a 6,500-foot cabin at FL410 instead of the current 8,000-foot cabin is going through the FAA approval process now and will not be available until mid-year, according to Boeing. The company announced at last year’s NBAA Convention that the kit would be available early this year.
