The South Korean government launched a special inspection of the country’s largest flag carrier, Korean Air Lines, on August 6, one day after one of the airline’s 737-900s overran a runway upon arrival at Japan’s Niigata Prefecture Airport (RJSN). The special safety inspection is expected to last three weeks.
Boeing 737 Next Generation
Southwest Airlines has triggered the program launch of Boeing’s 737 Max 7 narrowbody by converting 30 options that it holds for the existing 737 Next Generation family into orders for the new model. The U.S. low-cost carrier expects to take first 737 Max 7 deliveries in 2019. In a deal announced Wednesday, it also has exercised options for five more Next Generation 737-800s.

The Boeing 737 Max program has reached the development stage known as “firm concept,” following months of study into changes to the original design needed to effect a 13-percent operation cost improvement over the existing 737NG.
Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) reconfirmed plans today to build the BBJ Max, the executive version of Boeing’s 737 Max commercial jet that uses the CFM International Leap 1-B engines. Paralleling the commercial program, the first BBJ Max 8 will be based on the 737 Max 8 airframe. First BBJ Max 8 deliveries are expected in the 2017 to 2018 time frame. The BBJ Max 9 will follow, while plans for a BBJ Max 7 are under study.

The MAX brings the BBJ into the Leap era, using the same CFM International Leap 1-B engines and winglets as on the 737 MAX, which provide a range increase of more than 14 percent, according to Boeing.

Boeing had flown the aircraft from its flight-test facility at Glasgow, Montana, the preceding day using a biofuel blend made partially from used cooking oil.

CAE executives have rushed to Farnborough from Barcelona, Spain, where the company last week inaugurated a new center for commercial aircraft pilots and cabin crew near the main operating base of Vueling Airlines, the new facility’s anchor customer. The Canada-based group also recently expanded its training network by opening a new facility in South Korea and acquiring Oxford Aviation Academy in the UK.
