FreeFlight Systems has interfaced its Model 1201 Waas/GPS sensor with the Garmin GTX 330 mode-S transponder to provide an additional 1090-MHz extended-squitter ADS-B Out upgrade solution for GTX 330 owners. The upgrade solution gives aircraft owners more ADS-B Out equipage choices, depending on their aircraft type, existing avionics and flying requirements. It also ensures compliance with the FAA’s Jan.
Bell Helicopter has delivered the first of its new Bell 407GX aircraft in Russia. St Petersburg-based Helidrive, which is the U.S. manufacturer’s independent representative in northwest Russia, will be using the new single for private and charter use. Bell is displaying an example of the 407GX at this week’s JetExpo show in Moscow.
FlightSafety International announced a “significant” expansion of the training the company offers for Cessna Citations and Caravans at its learning centers in Orlando, Fla.; San Antonio and Wichita. This includes training for the full Citation Excel/XLS series in Orlando, including a new level-D XLS+ sim outfitted with Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics; addition of the only existing CJ2+ simulator in San Antonio; and a Cessna Caravan simulator equipped with a Garmin G600 avionics suite that just came online in Wichita.
Harbinger Capital Partners and other entities associated with the LightSquared high-speed wireless Internet access system have filed a lawsuit against Deere & Company, Garmin International, Trimble Navigation, The U.S. GPS Industry Council and The Coalition to Save Our GPS.
Garmin launched a G5000 avionics modernization program for the Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP, targeted for FAA STC approval in 2015, that will be available at certain Garmin dealers. The company estimates that the glass cockpit retrofit for the light twinjet will cost between $450,000 and $500,000 installed. In addition to modernizing the flight deck, the new avionics package is lighter and thus raises the jet’s useful load by 200 pounds.
The first production copy of the Cessna Citation M2, an updated CJ1+ with Garmin G3000 avionics, logged its maiden flight from Cessna Aircraft’s Independence, Kan. facility on Friday. It reached altitudes up to 17,500 feet during the two-hour sortie. The M2, which was announced in September 2011, is expected to receive FAA certification in the fourth quarter.
Piper is demonstrating two aircraft from its range here at the LABACE show: a Seneca V and a Meridian. The display is being undertaken in conjunction with J.P. Martins Aviacão, the authorized local Piper dealer.
Harbinger Capital Partners and other entities associated with the failed LightSquared 4G broadband network filed a lawsuit against Deere & Co., Garmin, Trimble Navigation, The U.S. GPS Industry Council and The Coalition to Save Our GPS. The lawsuit claims that the defendants failed to disclose information about GPS interference problems caused by an adjacent frequency spectrum that LightSquared was allocated to use and seeks $1.9 billion in damages.
Avionics manufacturer Garmin (Stand 2011) is experiencing growing interest in its products from the Brazilian marketplace, which has the second-largest general aviation fleet in the world. Garmin flight decks are prominent in two popular Brazilian business jets: the Embraer Phenom 100 and 300. In addition, many Brazilian operators are choosing the Garmin G950 and G1000 upgrades for Beechcraft King Airs, as well as the Garmin GTN series touchscreen GPS/navigation and communication systems for a variety of aircraft.
Elliott Aviation is installing its 100th King Air Garmin G1000 retrofit. In addition to the Garmin retrofit, the King Air B200 will receive new engines from Blackhawk, full paint, full interior, Raisbeck modifications, BLR winglets, LumaTech LED annunciator panels and Frakes exhaust.
