Aviation headset manufacturer Sennheiser and online flight-planning provider iFlightPlanner.com have formed a partnership and announced here at NBAA the formal launch of an integrated flight-planning application specifically designed for use with the iPad and iPad 2.
Universal Weather and Aviation (Booth No. C8926) and Honeywell (Booth No. N4500) have joined forces to provide extra flight services support for business aviation operators. Honeywell will augment its Global Data Center (GDC) offering with flight permits plus global ground handling, concierge and security services provided by Universal Weather.

More airspace will be opening for general aviation flights in China, according to NBAA. Initial airspace reforms in the flight control areas of Changchun and Guangzhou were completed late last year, and now the People’s Liberation Army Air Force is working to expand these flight control areas further, as well as the flight control sub-areas of Chengdu, Lanzhou, Jinan and Nanjing.
Jeppesen’s Mobile FliteDeck went live on Apple’s AppStore on July 25 and had been downloaded more than 3,000 times before Jeppesen formally announced the iPad app’s release three days later. Mobile FliteDeck builds on Jeppesen’s Mobile TC, which displayed worldwide terminal charts on the iPad, with new functionality, including en route charts and geo-referenced (own-ship) position display on GPS-equipped iPads.
FltPlan.com, which claims to be the online flight planning and filing service of choice for three out of four turbine business aircraft operators in the U.S., expanded its coverage to Central America and most of the Caribbean islands. According to the company, pilots flying south of the border can use the same data-entry methods as for a domestic FltPlan.com plan, and the FAA accepts the flight plan, which is in the required ICAO format.
It is just over a year since Rockwell Collins acquired flight planning group Air Routing International and rebranded the business Ascend Flight Information Solutions. The Houston-based operation has had a lower global profile than rival Universal Weather & Aviation for many years but that could be set to change as its new owner supports efforts to get closer to key emerging markets for business aviation.

Jeppesen introduced a new Web-based charting solution for the business aviation market. Dubbed Jeppesen eChart Viewer, the online product allows chart access from anywhere in the world and includes an auto-update service that eliminates the need for manual chart updates. Pilots can also print charts on the go from any computer, as well as use the included preflight planning tool.
