FlightSafety International technician training programs for Pratt & Whitney Canada engines have been moved from Beijing to Haikou, and will be provided at the new location by FlightSafety-trained instructors working for Lufthansa HNA Technical Training. FlightSafety is also providing all courseware and training engines for the program, which initially includes theory and practical training on the PT6A and PW100 series engines.

Cessna Aircraft delivered the 100th Grand Caravan EX this week. The milestone aircraft was handed over at Cessna’s Wichita headquarters to Hussain Ali Rashid Almoalla for use at his aviation club in the UAE. Almoalla, who also owns a Cessna 182 Skylane and 206 Stationair, planned to personally fly the Caravan back to his home base in Abu Dhabi, a trip of more than 9,000 nm. Powered by the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140, the EX offers a 38-percent improvement in rate of climb over the standard Grand Caravan, as well as a 10- to 12-knot boost in cruise speed.
Daher-Socata’s new TBM 900 is making its public debut this week at the 2014 Sun ’n’ Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, Fla., less than three weeks after the upgraded turboprop single was unveiled in Tarbes, France. Based on its speed and efficiency improvements over its TBM 850 predecessor, the $3.7 million TBM 900 has attracted “significant attention among pilots, owners and operators,” Daher-Socata said.

FlightSafety International’s Pratt & Whitney Canada engine training programs in China will be offered in Haikou through a cooperative agreement with Lufthansa HNA Technical Training. FlightSafety will train Lufthansa HNA’s instructors and provide all courseware and training engines.

This week Airbus Defence and Space unveiled the Orlik MPT, an upgrade of the PZL-130 Orlik (eaglet) trainer that made its first flight in 1984 and has been the Polish air force’s basic trainer since entering service in 1993. Busy times for helicopter manufacturers bringing new rotorcraft to market are keeping engine maker Pratt &Whitney Canada (P&WC) busy as well. Among the new turboshafts approaching certification is its PW210A engine for AgustaWestland’s new AW169 twin. At the same time, the PT6C-67E will soon be powering the service entry of the new Airbus Helicopters EC175.
PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI, Indonesian Aerospace) expects to fly its N219 twin-turboprop transport next year. The aircraft has been under development for some time to answer a need for a rugged STOL airliner able to operate in and out of remote, semi-prepared airstrips. At the same time, the N219 is intended to provide cost-efficient and reliable operations through the use of modern avionics and engines.
