Directional Aviation consolidated charter broker activities from wholly owned Sentient Jet, Flexjet and Flight Options yesterday under Skyjet, a new subsidiary. Greg Richman, who is president at the division, said the Skyjet brand was a “hidden gem” in Directional’s acquisition of Flexjet in December.

Winners of the annual European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) Safety of Flight Awards were announced at last week’s EBACE 2014 show in Geneva. GlobeAir AG won the Bronze Award for 20 years or 40,000 hours of accident-free operation. London Executive Aviation took the Silver Award for its 30 years or 60,000 accident-free flight hours of operation, and the Gold Award went to Flying Service for 40 years or 80,000 hours without an accident.

Air charter operator VistaJet, which has a fixed-wing fleet of large-cabin Bombardier jets, has been “testing” short-distance point-to-point service with an AgustaWestland AW109 GrandNew over the past year. The helicopter is based in St. Moritz and has been used to fly customers on short hops to such places as Milan, Geneva, Munich and Monte Carlo, as well as for heli-skiing excursions in the Swiss Alps.

Fractional-share provider NetJets Europe (Booth 6656) expects to receive its first new Bombardier Challenger 350, built to the specifications of NetJets’s Signature Series, in mid-2015. NetJets U.S. will begin taking deliveries of the model this summer. Additional aircraft on order are planned for delivery over the next few years.

Bombardier Aerospace unveiled a full-scale mockup of its Global 7000 today at EBACE in Geneva, and the lines of people waiting to get in for a look often exceeded its 111-foot length. Bombardier says it is the largest-ever business jet mockup and “showcases the aircraft’s spaciousness, luxury and comfort.” The ultra-long-range jet, slated to enter service in 2016, also features what Bombardier claims is the “largest window area currently offered on a business jet.”

Slovenia-based charter management company Elit’Avia (Booth 5134) announced on the eve of EBACE 2014 that it had received approval from the Slovenian Civil Aviation Agency for extended range operations (EROPS) for its Bombardier Global 6000 and Challenger 605. EROPS approval allows aircraft to fly flight paths that provide three-hour access over water using one engine to a suitable alternate airport.

VistaJet expects to have its new operation in China up and running by the end of 2014 if it achieves its goal of getting its local air operators certificate approved by early in the fourth quarter of this year. Ahead of this week’s ABACE show, the Europe-based private flight provider was giving no further details of its local partnership arrangements for the China operation, but it has previously been in discussion with Beijing Airlines.

Jet Aviation Flight Services will operate and manage a U.S.-based fleet of Bombardier Global jets for VistaJet’s Flight Solutions Program, the two Swiss companies announced before the show.

“Our alliance with Jet Aviation Flight Services is key to growing our business in the world’s largest corporate aircraft marketplace,” said Thomas Flohr, VistaJet founder and chairman. “We are confident that the VistaJet customer experience on flights operated by Jet Aviation will be seamless.”
