In its description of a new rule outlining the upcoming ban on jets that don’t meet Stage 2 noise standards, the FAA incorrectly stated that hushkits are available only for Gulfstream IIs and IIIs.
Duncan Aviation has entered into an agreement with Safran Power UK & Safran Power USA, naming the MRO the exclusive worldwide distributor of Safran Power UK and Safran Power USA’s replacement starter generator specifically designed for the Learjet 60. Duncan Aviation will house unit inventories on site at its Lincoln, Neb. facility and is ready to send shipments worldwide. According to Duncan Aviation, the Learjet 60 starter generator is a direct STC replacement that is “more reliable and simple to install with no required aircraft modification.”
Butler National is nearing completion of an STC for a Learjet 20-series Stage 3 noise suppression device. The aircraft is subject to the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, which includes provisions that ban its operation in the U.S. after Dec. 31, 2015 for not meeting current FAA Stage 3 noise level requirements. Installation of the Avcon Noise Suppressor should allow continued use of the airplanes in 2016 and beyond.Butler projects installations of the Avcon Noise Suppressor STC will begin this fall.
Bombardier business jet operators in Europe will soon have access to a broader range of services through Bombardier’s service center at Amsterdam-Schiphol International Airport. Bombardier will add engine services, interior refurbishment and aircraft cleaning and detailing services to its line and heavy maintenance offerings for Learjets, Challengers and Globals.
The FAA issued a final rule today that prohibits jets with an mtow of 75,000 pounds or less from operating in the contiguous U.S. after Dec. 31, 2015, unless they meet Stage 3 noise levels. To take effect on September 3, the rule could affect up to 599 civil jets, though any of these aircraft that are hushkitted or otherwise modified to meet Stage 3 standards will be permitted to operate in the U.S. in 2016 and beyond.
Avcon is “nearing completion” of its STC project for a Learjet 20-series Stage 3 noise suppression device. Under the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, aircraft that do not meet Stage 3 noise level requirements–a category that includes unmodified 20-series Learjets–cannot be operated in the U.S. after Dec. 31, 2015. Installation of the Avcon noise suppressor on 20-series Learjets should allow continued use of the CJ610 turbojet-powered airplanes beyond that date, the company said. Installations of the STC’d suppressors are expected to begin in the fall.
Bombardier Aerospace recently delivered the 400th Challenger 300 during a ceremony at the aircraft manufacturer’s facilities in Montreal. The milestone super-midsize jet will be operated by Russian business aviation firm BJet, which also has a Global 5000 and 6000, Challenger 605 and 850 and Learjet 60 in its fleet. The first Challenger 300 was delivered to Bombardier Flexjet in early 2004.
Bombardier has pushed back certification of the Learjet 70/75 to the fourth quarter of this year, from what had been planned to be an early-2013 entry into service. “Our supplier, Garmin, encountered some difficulties in delivering its avionics hardware and software,” a Bombardier spokeswoman told AIN. The Learjet 70/75 were slated to be the first jets certified with Garmin’s G5000 flight deck, although Cessna’s Sovereign might now enter service before the new Learjet.
Al Bateen Executive Airport has been named the preferred hub in the Middle East for German air ambulance and VIP charter jet operator FAI rent-a-jet (d/b/a Flight-Ambulance-Int’l). As part of the arrangement, two dedicated air ambulance jets–a Challenger 604 and Learjet 60–will be permanently based at Al Bateen and served by German aeromedical teams. FAI selected Al Bateen Executive Airport as its Middle Eastern hub because of its “ability to best serve increasing client demand from the region, the Far East and Asia.”
Bombardier’s wholly owned Amsterdam Service Center at Amsterdam-Schiphol International Airport will soon add engine services by Dallas Airmotive, interior refurbishment by OHS Aviation and aircraft cleaning and detailing by the Allen Group to its line and heavy maintenance services for Learjet, Challenger and Global business jets, the Canadian company announced here yesterday. Plans call for a series of agreements with the three suppliers to take effect in the second half of this year.
