The Wings Club presented a $25,000 donation to the Corporate Angel Network (CAN) at the club’s 67th annual dinner dance on October 23 at New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The award was to recognize CAN’s service helping cancer patients fly to treatment centers in empty business aircraft seats. CAN has arranged more than 32,000 free flights for cancer patients.

Teterboro Airport (TEB) presented 29 “Good Neighbor Awards” here yesterday to airport tenants and users who recorded a minimum of 100 operations per year while practicing “quiet flying” at the facility operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Joseph Singh, former director of charters for now-defunct Platinum Jet, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to “a conspiracy to defraud charter customers and brokers and to impede and obstruct the [FAA].” Singh, 37, of Boca Raton, Fla., admitted during his guilty plea in U.S. District Court that “he dispatched unqualified or unrested pilots”–including the pilot of the jet that crashed at Teterboro on Feb.

For the first time ever an NBAA Convention site has been chosen as the venue for Teterboro Airport to hand out its annual Good Neighbor Awards recognizing business jet operators who fly in such a way as to avoid noise-sensitive areas around the bustling New Jersey airport.

A story in The Bergen Record, a Northern New Jersey newspaper, opened a floodgate of protests from residents of communities surrounding Teterboro Airport. It reported that the FAA had posted a notice in the Federal Register to the effect that it was calling into question the action of some airports banning aircraft above certain weights from landing at their facilities.

Indigo, the provider of “regular and frequent” business jet service between Chicago Midway Airport and Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, suspended flights early last month, three months after a relaunch of operations on March 3.

“We fell short on the equity side,” said Indigo chairman and CEO Peter Pappas, by way of a terse explanation. “For the time being, we’re going to focus on our charter and corporate business.”

Teterboro (N.J.) Airport has become the first in the nation to implement a Web-based airport-specific flight crew briefing. It was produced by the National Air Transportation Association’s (NATA) Safety 1st program and funded by a grant from the FAA.
